The “Antonio Montiel” exhibition hall of the Antequera City Council hosts from this Monday, July 14, a new exhibition proposal on a brotherhood theme under the title “Devotional Jubilee in Families”. An initiative promoted by the Brotherhood of the Greatest Pain on the occasion of the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the blessing of the Virgin of the Greatest Pain and the 75th founding anniversary of the corporation.
The exhibition takes a tour of the first devotional expressions of the youngest, which even include pieces dating back to the seventeenth century. Collaborations of outstanding young brotherhoods and collectors from Antequera such as Antonio Narbona, José Carlos Jiménez, Antonio Pascual, Daniel Romero, Miguel Ángel Sánchez or Ángel Sarmiento are included. Traditional shops in the city also participate, which have kept this devotion alive in their shop windows and rooms, as well as convents that facilitated the acquisition of images for families with fewer resources.
Along with these pieces, the exhibition incorporates historical documents related to the Brotherhood of the Greatest Pain, such as engravings from 1790, plenary indulgences, old prints of the first kisses of the Lord’s feet, as well as the commemorative poster of this year’s double anniversary.
Visiting hours will be from Monday to Friday, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., remaining open to the public until next Thursday, July 25. The Brotherhood invites all Antequera residents and visitors to get to know this unique exhibition, which puts a face to the domestic and silent faith of so many generations who have cultivated devotion to our titular images in their homes.
