The city of Antequera is preparing to enjoy a Carnival 2025 made up of an extensive program of activities that will try to flood the streets with costumes, coplas and tradition. The official presentation was attended by the mayor, Manolo Barón, the deputy mayor responsible for Traditions, Elena Melero, the author of the advertising poster, Santi Mejías, and the town crier of the Carnival, José Agustín González. This year, the Antequera Carnival will take place from February 21 to March 1, with proposals for all ages and novelties that reinforce its festive appeal.
The starting signal will be on Friday, February 21 with the XIII Carnival Proclamation, which will be given by José Agustín González in the Patio de Caballos of the City Hall at 9:00 p.m., with free admission. Later, in the Le Bistrot pub, the presentation of the ballad “Los que te comen la oreja” will take place.
On Saturday, February 22, there will be children’s workshops on fantasy makeup and crafts at the Santa Clara Cultural Center, as well as the presentation of the chirigota “Los Pocos”, whose performance in the EMMA room will have a donation of 6 euros for the benefit of the Fireumas Association. The day will culminate with a pre-carnival party for young people in the Plaza de Toros.
The rest of the city’s carnival groups will be protagonists from February 26 to 28, with the presentation of chirigotas and romanceros also in the Emma Hall of the Municipal School of Music on Herrezuelos Street. On Friday 28 from 5:00 p.m., coinciding with the Day of Andalusia, the meeting of carnival groups will be held in the tent of the Patio de Caballos.
Saturday, March 1 will be the big day of Carnival with activities throughout the day. The morning will begin with children’s games and the costume contest in the Plaza del Coso Viejo. The music and entertainment will continue until the evening with the route of coplas through different streets and squares of the city. The great “Carousel of Fantasy” will tour the center of Antequera in an itinerary that will also be adapted in Diego Ponce street for people with hearing hypersensitivity, starting at 6:00 p.m. from Calzada street.
During the presentation, Santi Mejías explained the meaning of the advertising poster, a work full of symbolism and personal memories, with references to the history of the Antequera Carnival and emblematic figures of the festival. For her part, the deputy mayor Elena Melero stressed that this year the prizes of the costume contests have increased, encouraging the participation of citizens to enjoy the party to the fullest.
