Flamenco Night in Santa Maria

Antequera will celebrate on Saturday, August 2 the XXXVIII Flamenco Night of Santa María with María Terremoto, El Berenjeno and El Yiyo

Flamenco Night of Santa María, one of the most anticipated cultural events of the Antequera summer. The festival will take place on Saturday, August 2 at 10:30 p.m. in the Plaza de los Escribanos, with free admission until full capacity is reached.

The program of this thirty-eighth edition is headed by María Terremoto, one of the most promising voices of current flamenco. Born in Jerez de la Frontera, she belongs to the renowned flamenco saga of the “Terremoto”, being the granddaughter of the famous singer Fernando Fernández Monge and the continuation of an artistic legacy that has led her to be recognized as “Revelation Artist” at the XIX Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla. She will be accompanied on guitar by Nono Jero.

José Montoya “El Berenjeno”, a young gypsy singer from Jerez belonging to the prolific Carpio family, related to the Moneo, Rubichis and Agujetas, will also take the stage. From a very young age he has sung in meetings with figures such as Manuel Moneo, El Torta or El Mijita, consolidating himself as one of the emerging voices with the greatest projection. He will be accompanied on guitar by Antonio Malena Jr.

The dance section will be led by El Yiyo, a dancer born in Barcelona in 1996 and considered the new flamenco sensation. Despite his youth, he has already accumulated almost fifteen years of professional career, having toured international stages with more than twenty shows behind him. Renowned for its vibrant and elegant style, El Yiyo stands out both inside and outside the tablao, being also a fashion icon and attractive to new generations.

The show will be presented by the journalist and communicator Laura Caballero, a regular collaborator in the flamenco field and a connoisseur of flamenco art.

With this Flamenco Night, the City Council of Antequera reinforces its commitment to Andalusian culture and to the dissemination of one of the most valuable intangible heritages of our land: flamenco.
