OF ENGRAVINGS AND PRINTS. THE ANTEQUERA
COLLECTION (16th-20th centuries)
Engraving is the technique of stamping images by means of a matrix that serves as an iron, traditionally made on wood (woodcut), metal (etching, aquatint, burin, drypoint) or stone (lithography). The result is the print, usually on paper to which the image has been transferred by
means of ink, by putting the sheet in contact with the inked engraved plate and exerting pressure with a press or a vertical press.
This exhibition includes part of the collection preserved in the Municipal Historical Archive as well as in the Museum of Antequera (MVCA), with some contribution from the series of the Royal Academy of Noble Arts of Antequera.
The collection has been organized thematically, including the following blocks: cartography and views of the city, religious iconography, passion and glory, illustrations of books and prints, the exaltation of illustrious characters.
Of all the engravers collected, it is worth mentioning Francisco de la Torre, Hoefnagel, Arnoldo Van Westerhout, Poyatos, Pascual Cucó, Lionel Linsay, among others.
