The Antequera Cultural Association of the Spinning Top was officially established with the purpose of spreading, extending and recovering the practice of those Traditional Games that so much contributed to our first years. Unconsciously, practicing this game allowed us to relate to each other, to educate ourselves, to play sports and to learn several aspects of the education which are nowadays very much valued.

Since childhood to adolescence, games play an important role in the children’s personal development: they meet their need of action and expression while contributing to get physical and intellectual flairs; they help to teach them to relate with others and with their environment by instilling those values and rules that, later on, they will have to follow when they become adults. The recreational aspect is related to aspects such as the entertainment, spontaneity, symbolism, voluntary nature and the result’s uncertainty.

The fact of playing is a control, mental, recreational, open and individual practice where there are not fixed rules and the leading player can do whatever she/he wants whenever she/he wants to. However, the game is a motor, mental and recreational practice subject to certain rules that establish a series of conditions (obligations, rights and prohibitions): things that can be done and things which cannot be done, and those conditions are agreed by the people who want to take part together and to compete. However, our wish is to enhance a cultural and educative heritage which, besides being recreational, offers us a heritage of the world peoples, so that we can talk about history, art, music, science, education…
