El Chorro” reservoir, close to the village of Ardales and also very near of Antequera, was inaugurated by His Majesty Alfonso XIII in 1921. Many people feel attracted by its woodlands, “beaches”, sport activities, trails, viewpoints, gullies and encased rivers. Within this natural landscape, visitors will find the Los Gaitanes Narrow Gorge, also called the “El Chorro Gorge” (3 kilometers long and up to 400 meters high). It follows the way by which the  three rivers, Turon, Guadalteba and Guadalhorce, flow together. The ecological niche formed by this closed valley is particularly important as regards its flora and fauna, above all the birds of prey.  The narrow gorge is crossed by the Caminito del Rey (the King’s small path), a catwalk which was originally made to watch the water course and which is currently closed to people. This is a perfect place for those fond of climbing, as there are more than 300 vias to do this sport.   www.caminitodelrey.info
