Each 25th of  December, in the morning, the inhabitants of the Antequera’s hamlets (La Higuera and La Joya, among others), from the Villanueva de la Concepción borough and from the very own town, get together at the Hermitage of Jeva, on the South of the Natural Landscape of El Torcal , to venerate the Virgin of Purification.

This festivity  starts with a pealing of the bells introducing the traditional “clash of verdiales  gangs”-a typical music and dance from the Malaga province- when they entry at the hermitage. Later, the people enjoy themselves by tasting home-made mantecados, coffee, aguardiente (strong liquor) and fritters while listening the mentioned verdiales gangs.

Finally, the Virgin is taken in procession to the threshing floor, where a mass is celebrated.  To finish the festivity, around midday, there is a contest of verdiales songs dedicated to  the Virgin, who is taken back to her hermitage once the act is finished.
